Borough District 1 Community:
My name is Michelle. I am a long time Borough resident, but more importantly— Do not dismiss me because I am not party affiliated. I am your neighbor and have the time to work for you.
My children attended Butte Elementary, Palmer Junior Middle and Palmer High School. I have seen the changes and evolution of our district. There are many education choices now for parents, and I support your choice for your child. I do not support the borough giving funds to charters outside borough boundaries.
I retired after 30 years of work in the public sector and now own and operate our family’s remote lodge. I am a licensed Big Game Transporter under the Alaska Big Game Commercial Services Board. In the off season, maintain my certified nurse aide license. I maintain a membership with Matanuska Valley Sportsmen’s Shooting Range. I am a strong believer in supporting local businesses and our farmers for their continued contribution to our economy.
Throughout my 34 years as a District 1 resident, I have volunteered in our community in many capacities. What started with helping to run the snack shack at my boys baseball games has evolved into a passion for supporting our neighbors. I currently serve as secretary for the state Matanuska Valley Fish and Game Advisory Committee (Alaska Department of Fish and Game), am a member of the Alaska Trappers Association South Central Chapter, and the National Trappers Association. I am also a volunteer with the borough animal control shelter providing whatever services staff need to maintain healthy care for the four legged members of our community.
My District priorities for working on the Assembly include open communication and information sharing, identification of infrastructure needs, roads and road maintenance, education, emergency services, hazard mitigation, recreational opportunities, and maintenance for trails and public use areas. Borough wide concerns include Port MacKenzie business development, libraries, public transportation, housing developments, homeless issues, awareness of our aging population, and overall healthy neighborhoods.
